MINDS and VITO Remote Sensing presented the CLAIMS and INSPIRE projects at the EU Research and Innovation Days exhibition from 20-21 March 2024 in Brussels.
The European Commission’s annual flagship research and innovation event, the European Research and Innovation Days (R&I Days) brought together policy makers, researchers, stakeholder and the public in Tour and Taxis, Brussels and online to celebrate the outcomes and achievements of 40 years research & innovation and to debate how to make Europe more sustainable and competitive.
The CLAIM project was invited by REA to the R&I Days exhibition to showcase the innovative developments by MINDS (a spinoff of HCMR) of the TRL9 CLEAN TRASH system that retains, collects, and monitors floating litter (including macroplastics), specifically devised to operate in river mouths and waterways.
The CLEAN TRASH will be further demonstrated together with other technologies like Drone observations and Bridge-mounted cameras developed by VITO Remote Sensing at the Po river in the framework of the INSPIRE project, a mission Ocean and Waters charter action.
Participants showed interest in the INSPIRE technologies at the 6 demo river sites and 2 prevention sites and they appreciated very much the INSPIRE plans of the Open Call (open from 1 June 2024-29 Nov 2024) for scaling up, replication and exploitation of the lessons learned from the INSPIRE sites to other sites (details about the Open Call will be published at the INSPIRE website).
It was an honour for the CLAIMS and INSPIRE projects and the partners MINDS and VITO to present both projects at the R&I Days exhibition and to welcome Marc Tachelet, director of REA at our booth. Watch here the reply of the video prepared by REA on the occasion of World Water Day:
One step closer for cleaner rivers and ocean!🌊

“In understanding waste as a threat to our future and a potential asset, we discover the path to sustainability. By identifying, sorting, and expanding plastics recycling efforts, we not only protect our environment but also create a future where every waste can be transformed into something valuable,” – Elsie Haertjens, VEOLIA
