INSPIRE partners bring the plastic-free mission to Italian students and stakeholders

INSPIRE partners Vanessa Moschino and Fantina Madricardo from CNR Institute of Marine Science (ISMAR) joined forces for two impactful events in Italy this October, bringing the mission for plastic-free waters closer to local communities.

On October 11, they participated in the event Plastic Free Day in Polesine organized by Plastic Free in Rovigo, Italy. Vanessa gave a demonstration on the topic of plastic and microplastics in the aquatic environment to 120 students (6 classes), illustrating the main action of the INSPIRE project. Together with this, they distributed 123zero plastic-free toiletries, increasing awareness on reducing the use of plastic packaging. The INSPIRE project was furthermore presented showcasing some of the solutions for the Po River Demo site to relevant stakeholders such as the ADBPO (Po River Basin Authority) and ISPRA (Italian Institute for Environmental Protection and Research).

A few days later, on October 15, they took part in the event Pilot Platform for Mediterranean Rivers and Lakes Communities – a joint initiative of BlueMissionMed, SEACURE, and Regione Piemonte held in Turin (Italy). During the session “Voices from River and Lake Community”, Fantina Madricardo gave the presentation “Solutions for plastics in rivers: insights from the H2020 MAELSTROM and HEU INSPIRE Projects” to about 70 participants from research, innovation and administration sector to the event.

Each event strengthened collaboration with stakeholders and highlighted INSPIRE’s commitment to cleaner, more resilient aquatic ecosystems across Europe.
