INSPIRE Presented at the MicroMed conference in Ischia, Italy

On 21 October 2025, INSPIRE was presented at the international conference MicroMed held in Ischia, Italy. This event serves as a key regional forum dedicated to advancing research and collaboration on microplastics, marine restoration, and sustainable innovation in the Mediterranean. It brought together scientists, policymakers, and project representatives to discuss emerging findings and joint initiatives supporting the EU Mission “Restore Our Ocean and Waters”.

Annamaria Vujanović from the University of Maribor (Slovenia), presented INSPIRE’s activities and innovations, focusing on the project’s implementation of technologies for retention and elimination of micro- and nanoplastics at the Domžale-Kamnik wastewater treatment plant in Slovenia. She outlined how the INSPIRE cascade systems are being tested under real wastewater conditions to assess the efficiency of different treatment stages.

The presentation highlighted INSPIRE’s contribution to the broader Mission Ocean goal of reducing microplastic pollution by 30% by 2030, positioning the Slovenian demonstration site as a key step toward achieving elimination of micro- and nanoplastics in water bodies. The event served as an excellent opportunity to exchange knowledge between national and European initiatives and to strengthen collaboration in the field of clean water and circular innovation.
