The scientific journal Microplastics and Nanoplastics has officially opened submissions for a comprehensive new special collection led by INSPIRE partners: “Monitoring and Management of Aquatic Plastic Pollution: Detection, Remediation and Source Control.”
As plastic pollution continues to impact global freshwater and marine ecosystems, this collection seeks to bridge the gap between initial surveying and the implementation of sustainable remediation and policy. The issue is structured around three core pillars:
- Detection and Transport: Focusing on novel sampling methods and modeling from riverbanks to the open ocean.
- Remediation and Collection: Highlighting the science and technology behind plastic removal and life cycle assessments.
- Source Control and Prevention: Evaluating the effectiveness of environmental economics, policy, and sustainable material alternatives.
The editorial INSPIRE team, led by Daniel González-Fernández (University of Cádiz), including Tim van Emmerik (Wageningen University), Ana Isabel Catarino and Gert Everaert (Flanders Marine Institute), and Annamaria Vujanović (University of Maribor), invites submissions of original research and policy evaluations.
Submissions are open until 31 December 2026. For full guidelines and to submit your manuscript, please visit the journal’s collection page: https://link.springer.com/collections/idhaaeegcj.
